Butler County Jail Gets A Surprise Visitor From Behind Bars

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that a 25 year old female who was being held on charges from two court jurisdictions had been in jail for a week.  She was around 8 months pregnant when she was incarcerated.  The inmate was housed in the booking area where she could be monitored closely due to her condition. Yesterday at around 6:45 PM, the inmate advised corrections officers she was in labor.  Officers observed the infant was visible and immediately contacted the medical staff and Hamilton Life Squad.  Corrections officers and the jail medical staff delivered the baby girl before the squad arrived on scene.  “The little girl was already coming when the inmate yelled for staff and everyone acted quickly,” Captain Dennis Adams of the Corrections Division stated.

The Butler County Jail is staffed with highly experienced medical personnel.  “We have paramedics, registered nurses, a licensed physician, physician assistant and a dentist.  We are well prepared for just about any medical issue or emergency, including child birth.”  Sheriff Jones said.

“This is definitely a first for us here,” said the Sheriff. “I am pleased the baby is healthy and doing well.  My staff did a great job in reacting fast; they knew exactly what to do and made this situation a success.”

The name and identity of the inmate is being withheld due to HIPPA regulations.
