Two Arrested On Drug Charges During Search Warrant

Richard K. Jones reports that after a three month long investigation the B.U.R.N. (Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics Taskforce) executed a search warrant at 679 Franklin Street in the City of Hamilton. The search resulted in $24,200.00 in cash, 1oz. of cocaine, ½ a pound of marijuana, over 200 doses of pharmaceuticals including oxycodone, suboxone, and Xanax and over an ounce of heroin. Keith Walter, 45 year old male was charged with trafficking in cocaine felony of the 1st degree, possession of cocaine felony of the 2nd degree, trafficking in heroin felony of the 1st degree, possession of heroin felony of the 2nd degree. He is currently in the Butler County Jail.

During the execution of the search warrant, Scott Day, 47 year old male, approached the scene and after observing that deputies were present, threw a bag containing illegal drugs into the street. “He did not realize what he was walking into, wrong place, wrong time and apparently not too wise tossing drugs right in front of deputies.” Sheriff Jones said. Mr. Day was charged with tampering with evidence felony of the 3rd degree, possession of drugs felony of the 5th degree, possession of cocaine felony of the 5th degree, possession of heroin felony of the 5th degree, and failure to comply misdemeanor of the 1st degree.

Sergeant Hackney, supervisor of B.U.R.N., stated that they are finding heroin at almost every search warrant and drug arrest they execute. A Dodge pick-up truck and an Oldsmobile Aurora were also confiscated, according to Hackney. Since January, the Sheriff’s Office has had 244 cases involving narcotics; 88 of those resulted in heroin charges. 26 guns have been confiscated, 246 arrests have been made and $240,000.00 confiscated in assets.

“Keep paying attention because there’s plenty more arrests coming,” said the Sheriff. “I will continue to make room for the heroin dealers in my jail. The agents worked diligently in this investigation, and it’s another one that has definitely paid off.”
