Scammers Posing As U.S. Treasury Agents

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that back in October of last year, we sent out information on a scam involving the Internal Revenue Service. This trend is continuing this year and we are receiving phone calls about the activity.  A suspect informs the victim by phone that they are calling from the Internal Revenue Service.  They tell the victim they owe back taxes that need to be collected as soon as possible.  The amount the suspect tells the victim they owe is normally between 5 and 6 thousand dollars.  The scammer will agree to a compromise if the victim offers money.
