Illegal Aliens

SignI have recently mailed a bill to the Federal Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”) for prisoners believed to be “Undocumented Aliens” currently housed in our jail. This bill, calculated through the end of October, is for a total of $71,610.00 covering the fifteen (15) identified individuals currently in jail, some of whom have been in jail since June, 2005. It represents a total of 1,023 billable days at $70.00/day

My question is why should Butler County taxpayers have to pay for jail costs associated with people we don’t believe should ever have been in this country, let alone this state, or county, to begin with?

These prisoners appear to be undocumented and are in my jail because they have committed crimes here. It’s time the Federal Government should at least pay for the criminals they let stay here. If they don’t want to pay for them, then they can deport them!

I feel this topic has been avoided long enough and action needs to be taken now, and I’m going to do what I can to do just that! We have received dozens of comments from the public on this topic which is one reason I wanted this blog. Those comments have been compiled and can be seen here.

What are your thoughts?

Sheriff Caught Speeding!

I am not above the law and I have the citation to prove it! For those that missed the story in the local newspapers, I was recently stopped for speeding by one of my own deputies while driving my personal car. Obviously, she was reluctant to issue me a citation, but I insisted that I expect her to enforce the law and write the ticket. Anyone who speeds in Butler County deserves a ticket, even if it is the Sheriff!

Teamwork helps catch illegals!

Just wanted to comment that communications are improving between my Sheriff’s Office and I.C.E.! As of a result of a traffic stop on December 9th deputies discovered what appeared to be a fraudulent Social Security card in the vehicle. ICE was contacted during the investigation to provide their expertise in dealing with these types of situations.

A search warrant was obtained as a result of the investigation. The search warrant was executed on December 15th by Sheriff’s Agents, Deputies, and ICE agents. This search resulted in the seizure of multiple fake identification cards, including Social Security cards! In addition, five individuals were arrested all of which ICE has confirmed to be in this country illegally. Two of the five will be deported by ICE as a result of this action.

This is an example of what can be done right here in Butler County when the resources of ICE and the Sheriff’s Office are combined! ICE has much more resources than we do and their assistance is appreciated.

This is just the beginning. Stay tuned!

Mexico owes the U.S.A.!

Happy New Year! I had a little time off during the holidays and got to thinking (which often worries criminals) about the recent changes in federal legislation regarding homeland security.

It occurred to me that in all this new legislation, nothing has been mentioned about holding Mexico’s President Vicente Fox and his country responsible for failing to secure the Mexican borders. It appears to me that he is doing little or nothing to stop anyone in his country, or anyone entering his country, from freely crossing Mexico’s border into the United States.

Because of this, it seems to me that the United States should make Mexico fiscally responsible for the increased expense of securing our southern border and compensation to the victims of crimes committed by persons who came illegally into the United States through their “open” borders.

To accomplish this, I feel the United States government should seize Mexico’s assets located in the United States and use the money to pay for having to increase OUR border security, compensate the victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens who came in through (or from) Mexico, and to reimburse our jails for housing them!

What do you think about this idea?

Washington Times Interview!

Today I had a telephone interview with Jerry Seper, a reporter for the Washington Times, about my stance on illegal aliens for tomorrow’s paper. I told him how even though I am a conservative and support the President, I am concerned with his position on border security. I mean, if I am having illegal alien problems in Butler County Ohio, how bad is it in the border states? The President needs to take a firm stand on the issue of closing the borders to illegal immigrants!

I personally remain encouraged by all of the blog entries, emails, and phone calls I get supporting me in my efforts to bring attention to this problem. I feel I speak for the majority of my constituents who feel as I do, but are afraid to speak up due to being painted a bigot or racist which I certainly am not.

The public needs to know this is not a conservative or liberal issue. It is not a Democrat or Republican issue… it is an American citizen issue! My goal is to bring this subject to the attention of the officials in Washington D.C. They need to help us here in the nation’s heartland with the illegal immigration problem we have inherited due to their weak stance on border control.

To those who feel their voice means little, do not be discouraged from standing up and being heard as I have, and know that I have just begun to fight!

Thanks for the Support!

I just wanted to make a post thanking everyone who has responded on my view of the illegal immigration problem we’re faced with here in Butler County and the nation as a whole. Recently, I have been on many TV and radio programs trying to get my message out and judging by the volume of calls, emails, and comments the message is getting heard!

When I brought this subject to the publics attention, I felt that many shared my views, but the overwhelming positive response is greater than even I expected! I believe that laws are meant to protect us and I will do what is necessary to enforce them without bias. For those who read this and wonder what I’m all about, the Cincinnati Enquirer did a pretty good article on me in January which can be read HERE.

Talk…talk…talk….

After reading the blog comments, emails and letters regarding the illegal aliens issue here in Butler County, I gathered that some think that all I am really doing is talk, talk, talk. I have read where some folks feel it is easy to talk a good game, but much harder to deliver. Some are in essense asking… “Where’s the beef??”

Well, all I can say for right now is “stay tuned”.

American Patriot Award!

The last two days have been interesting! Yesterday I sent a letter to President Bush explaining my position on the illigan alien problem in my county and urged him to reconsider his stance on the “guest worker” program, increase border security, and to expedite efforts to deport those who should not be in this country and my county! A copy ofthe letter can be viewed HERE.

Today, I had the honor of being presented with the 2nd annual “American Patriot award” by Angela “Bay” Buchanan, former Treasurer of the United States under President Ronald Reagan, and current Chairman of Team America Pac. I have a photo gallery of the award presentation HERE.

I suggest checking out their FAQ page, as it seems we have similar views on the Illegal Aliens problem! The word IS getting out there!!
