The
primary focus of the Traffic Investigations Unit of the Butler County Sheriff’s
Office is to follow up on hit-skip accidents and complete additional follow-up
investigations on serious or fatal crashes. This unit has also consolidated all
school bus violation reports from the respective school districts serviced by
the Sheriff’s Office for follow-up and subsequent citations if warranted. In
the year of 2004, there were 195 accidents involving drivers 18 years old or
younger and 1,945 traffic accidents. Of these accidents 13 were fatal with a
total of 14 deaths. There was a total of 44 crash reports that were DUI
(Driving Under the Influence) related, all 44 were adult drivers.
