Injury to Child Results in Arrest

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports Sheriff’s Investigators have charged a local man as a result of injuries sustained by a 9-month-old male child under his supervision. Michael Kirby, Sr., age 30, of Barnum St., Hamilton (Liberty Township), has been charged through Butler County Area 2 Court with felony-3 “Child Endangering” for causing the injury to the child.

Kirby was watching his girl-friend’s male child on September 3, at the mobile home on Barnum St. that they shared. Late that evening, the child was taken to Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton, then on to Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati for an “abdominal condition.” Personnel at Children’s contacted the Sheriff’s Office concerning the child’s injuries in the early morning hours of September 4, and an immediate investigation began. By noon on September 4, Kirby was charged and placed in the Butler County Jail. The child’s mother was not present at the time of the injury, and has not been charged. The child’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
