Routine Mission Results in Marijuana Confiscation
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that a routine training flight by the Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit has resulted in the confiscation of over 50 marijuana plants discovered growing in a cornfield near Middletown. From the air this morning, pilots spotted what they suspected was a marijuana crop in a field along the 3300 block of Yankee Road. They called for assistance from Sheriff’s Office Detectives and Agents of the Drug and Vice Investigations Unit, directing them to the site. Within hours, fifty-six (56) individual plants, most well-cared for and nurtured, were pulled from the field and confiscated. No arrests have been made, but Agents continue an investigation into the matter.
Sheriff Jones stated, “This is the time of year when we often have marijuana confiscations. Our Aviation Unit works a lot with the State of Ohio Attorney General’s Office, assisting them with marijuana eradication efforts throughout the State. It’s kind of ironic that a routine training mission, that wasn’t even focusing on marijuana, ends up like this. To all the drug dealers out there -- Beware. If you grow it, we will come.”
