Fatal Crash Along State Route 73 in Wayne Township

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports one person died in a single vehicle, semi tractor/trailer crash in Wayne Township this morning. Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency fire and rescue response units were dispatched to the 3200 block of Trenton-Oxford Road (State Route 73) shortly before 11 am. Preliminary investigation indicates that Michael Scheidler, age 41, from Coldwater, Michigan, was westbound on Trenton-Oxford Road, driving a 1998 Freightliner Tractor/Trailer, loaded with cargo from Miller Brewery in Trenton. The vehicle travelled off the right side of the roadway shortly after a curve in the road, tipping onto the vehicle’s right side and striking a tree. Scheidler was pronounced dead at the scene by the Butler County Coroner’s Office. Trenton-Oxford Road remained closed to traffic between Cotton Run Road and West Elkton Road (State Route 503) for several hours after the crash for investigative and cleanup purposes. Both the Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
