For Immediate Release….
December 18, 2008
Special Traffic Enforcement Programs (S.T.E.P.) thru Holidays
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones announces increased patrol efforts during the upcoming holidays, being funded by State of Ohio grant money. 150 additional “man-hours” are being scheduled from mid-December through January 1, 2009, throughout the areas patrolled by the Sheriff’s Office. Depending on the night, 2-4 additional Deputies (beyond all normally scheduled patrol units), will be focusing on speeders, seat-belt usage, impaired drivers, and any other unsafe drivers in hopes that this will be a safe holiday travelling season.
“The main reason for these additional patrol efforts is not just to write tickets,” said Sheriff Jones. “We really want to reduce accidents and injuries. If I put more Deputies out there, maybe just their presence will cause someone to slow down, or remember to buckle up. It’s up to all of us to make traveling Butler County roadways as safe as possible.”
