Wayne Township Crash results in Fatality


Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that deputies and Wayne Township Fire and EMS responded to the intersection of Cotton Run Road and Oxford-Middletown Road this morning at approximately 7:09 a.m. in reference to an injury crash. Preliminary investigation indicates Leeann Channel, age 17, was traveling southbound on Cotton Run Road in Wayne Township in a 2005 Toyota Corolla. Ms. Channel entered the intersection striking a 2008 Hyundai Accent traveling eastbound on Oxford-Middletown Road driven by Thomas Highley, age 58. Mr. Highley traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a concrete post, and flipped coming to rest on its’ top. Mr. Highley passed away at the scene as a result of his injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit.
