For Immediate Release… June 23, 2010
Possible Traffic Delays Along Northbound S.R. 4 in Butler County Tomorrow Morning, but For a Good Reason as Law Enforcement “Torch Run” for Special Olympics Travels Toward Columbus.
For more than fifteen years, the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics has traveled through Butler County with volunteer runners carrying the “Flame of Hope” from Cincinnati to Columbus for the opening of the Ohio Special Olympics Summer Games. In 2009, the run generated more than $420,000 for the Special Olympics athletes and programs.
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports four (4) volunteers from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office will be participating as the torch travels between the Cities of Hamilton and Middletown. This local leg of the journey will be leaving the City of Hamilton Administration Building, 345 High Street in Hamilton, at approximately 8:15 am, tomorrow, June 24, 2010. The runners will travel east on High Street, to North on Ohio S.R. 4 to the Middletown Police Department in Middletown. Traffic will be maintained around the runners, but traffic will at times be reduced to one northbound lane, for the safety of all participants.
For interested media, the current plan calls for a brief “press stop” at 8:15 am at the Hamilton Administration Building on High Street where additional information, photo opportunities, and perhaps brief interviews can be obtained. Any media coverage of this worthwhile event is certainly appreciated.
