St. Clair Township Train/Pedestrian Crash Results in Fatality
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that on 07/08/06 at approximately 0430 hours Deputies were dispatched along with St. Clair Township Fire and EMS to the area of US 127 near the R.R. tracks reference a subject struck by a train.
Preliminary investigation and witness statements indicate that three subjects were walking on the R.R. tracks in the area of ADS, just north of New Miami. Two of the three subjects jumped from the path of the southbound Norfolk-Southern train and escaped injuries. The third subject was unable to avoid the train, and was struck.
A 17-year-old Fairfield youth was located along the tracks by Deputies and EMS personnel with extensive head injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. (The name of the deceased is being withheld, pending notification of parents / family members). Several other juveniles who were at the scene were transported to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office for interviews and witness statements.
These sections of the roadway and R.R. tracks were closed for approximately four (4) hours for investigational purposes. This accident remains under investigation by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit and the Butler County Coroner’s Office.
