Extra Traffic Patrols Scheduled for Holiday Weekend

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones announces increased patrol activity by Deputies over the upcoming holiday weekend. In addition to the Sheriff’s Office on-going regular participation with the Butler County DUI Task Force with stepped-up enforcement against impaired driving, the Sheriff’s Office is using additional grant money to put even more Deputies on the streets to curb impaired driving and arrest those caught drinking and driving. Beginning Thursday evening, August 31, and continuing through Monday, September 4, Deputies expect to log about 200 man hours with the DUI Task Force, and about another 100 man hours through the S.T.E.P. (Special Traffic Enforcement Patrol) grant program.

Impaired driving is no accident and costs Americans millions of dollars each year in lost time, lost property and lost lives. It is a violent crime that kills and statistics show that every 30 minutes someone in America is killed because of an impaired driver. To add to this startling fact, every 2 minutes someone is injured due to an impaired driver.

Butler County Deputies operate with a “zero tolerance” policy with regard to intoxicated drivers. If you drive intoxicated in Butler County and are stopped by a Sheriff’s Deputy, expect to be arrested.

Sheriff Jones and his Deputies urge anyone who consumes alcohol and considers getting behind the wheel to not place their own lives and the lives of others at risk. Use of designated drivers, taxicabs, and public transportation are all ways that can keep the roadways in Butler County safe for all of us. Remember – If You Drink and Drive in Butler County, You Lose!
