As today’s election process has unfolded, debates have arisen concerning the news media’s rights to enter voting areas and to observe the voting process at Butler County voting sites. The law and current court opinions appear to conflict with each other. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office has been working this morning with media outlets, the local Board of Elections, and legal counsel for a solution to this dilemma. To that end, the Sheriff’s Office has modified certain aspects of our response to these situations, and we would be glad to share our concerns and clarify our position to interested parties. This topic is obviously time-sensitive, and those who wish to discuss the matter with us are invited to call, or come, to the Sheriff’s Office anytime during the next several hours.
