Suspected Bank Robber Nabbed in New Jersey
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports authorities in New Jersey have captured Ronald E. Loehr of Hamilton, wanted here on Aggravated Robbery charges stemming from the March 25 robbery of the First Financial Bank branch office in Seven Mile. (He is also suspected of other recent bank robberies in Hamilton County and the City of Hamilton.) Loehr was known to have contacts in New Jersey, and Sheriff’s Investigators had believed that was his destination when he reportedly fled Ohio shortly after the March 25 robbery.
The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) was assisting in locating Loehr, and had alerted the Burlington (New Jersey) Police Department of the possibility of Loehr being in their city. Around 11 am today, an alert New Burlington Officer spotted Loehr as he was attempting to board a train bound for Camden, New Jersey. Loehr was immediately taken into custody without incident, and taken to the New Burlington Police Department. During the arrest process, it was discovered Loehr also could be facing some other, local New Jersey charges, and authorities are in the process of sorting out those details. He will remain in custody in New Jersey until their charges and the extradition to Ohio process is completed.
Sheriff Jones is quite pleased with today’s developments on this case. “What a great job by everyone involved,” said the Sheriff. “This guy robs a Butler County Bank on Monday and flees Ohio. Within days, he gets identified with the help of our Probation Department, tracked into New Jersey, the FBI and Burlington Police coordinate efforts and he gets arrested by Thursday. This was a top-notch effort by everyone.”
