For Immediate Release… April 22, 2011
Jail Inmate Facing Additional Charge for Assault on Officer
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports a jail prisoner is now facing an additional charge of Assault on an Officer (felony 5), (as well as “in-house” jail disciplinary actions) after an apparent unprovoked attack on Corrections Officer David Schueller, age 58, a six-year veteran of the Corrections Division. Inmate Corey Stewart, age 40, of Hamilton, has been in the Butler County Jail since his arrest by Hamilton Police on March 12, 2011 for Possession of Drugs and Violation of Protection Order charges.
Yesterday, April 21, around 11 am, C.O. Schueller was conducting a security check on the second tier level of his cell block when he was physically attacked by inmate Stewart, who punched, choked, and attempted to throw Schueller off the second tier. Schueller was able to radio for assistance during the struggle, and responding officers were able to gain control of inmate Stewart, ending the attack. C.O. Schueller was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for multiple non-life-threatening injuries. He is recovering at home from those injuries, and hopes to be able to return to work soon.
