Grant Money Providing For Extra Patrol
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones announces that grant money from the State of Ohio Governor’s Highway Safety Office has provided funding for extra patrol efforts during the month of October. While extra patrols focused primarily on weekends earlier this month (during area high school homecoming functions), the patrols are expanding coverage to include weekdays, beginning Monday, October 29, through the observance of Halloween on October 31. At least five (5) extra Deputies will be assigned traffic patrol duties on both Monday and Tuesday, with at least seven (7) additional Deputies patrolling on Halloween night. These Deputies will be targeting speeders and other traffic law violators, and will concentrate patrols more in local area neighborhoods, rather than just on major thoroughfares.
The main goal of the extra patrols is to help keep our neighborhoods safe, especially on Wednesday evening while thousands of children will be walking those neighborhood streets. While catching traffic law violators is a function of the patrols, it is hoped that the increased visibility of Deputies on patrol will also serve as a deterrent to those who might otherwise speed or not pay attention to traffic signs/lights.
