Snow Advisories, defined:
In Ohio, County Sheriff’s have the power to issue “Snow Advisories.” In making that determination, the Sheriff may receive input from the County Engineer, local Emergency Management Agency, Township Trustees, and/or the Ohio Department of Transportation. Ohio has three levels of snow advisory classifications:
• Level 1
Roadways are hazardous. Motorists are urged to drive very cautiously.
• Level 2
Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads can be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roadways. People should contact their employer to see if they should report for work. Obviously, if you are driving, use extreme caution.
• Level 3
All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be driving during this condition unless it is absolutely necessary, or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employers to see if they should report for work. Anyone traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.
Whenever a “snow advisory” is issued, news media are immediately notified. Motorists are encouraged to monitor local media outlets for initial notifications and changes to classifications as they occur. |
