Rumpke Worker Injured in Early Morning Incident
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports a sanitation worker for Rumpke was injured after being struck by a vehicle around 4:40 this morning. James Gardner, 36, of Hamilton, was outside the vehicle collecting trash and near the rear of a Rumpke truck that was stopped eastbound on Old Oxford Road (State Route 130) between Vizedom and Boyle Roads in Hanover Township. A red pickup truck, also eastbound on Old Oxford Rd., approached the Rumpke truck from behind, and struck Mr. Gardner, knocking him to the ground. The pickup truck then left the area. Preliminary investigation indicates Gardner was wearing a reflective vest, and the truck’s safety warning lights were operating. Gardner was transported by Air Care to University Hospital in Cincinnati.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Investigations Unit. The driver of the pickup truck has not yet been located.
