Sheriff’s Office Caisson Unit to Honor Another Fallen Hero

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports with sorrow the Sheriff’s Office Caisson Unit will once again be called to action as another local area hero is laid to final rest. The Unit will participate in Thursday’s funeral services for US Marine Lance Corporal Bryan Taylor of Milford, killed in Irag last week. Funeral arrangements are being conducted through Evans Funeral Home, Milford.

The Caisson Unit consists of twelve (12) Deputy Sheriffs who volunteer their time to participate in honoring fallen public servants during the ritual of military funeral services. The members are all trained by the US Army Old Guard, 3rd Infantry Division based at Fort Myers (Arlington) Virginia. They have assisted in fourteen (14) previous funerals, for Law Enforcement officers and other dignitaries, in Ohio as well as Kentucky and Indiana. Lance Corporal Taylor will be the fifteenth (15) overall, and the third (3rd) local area Marine to have been honored by the Caisson Unit.

Sheriff Jones, himself a US Army Veteran, was the driving force for forming the Unit more than five (5) years ago when he served Butler County as the Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy. Funds for the Caisson Unit were raised through private donations, and it functions at no cost to taxpayers.
