News for Immediate Release May 26, 2006

Two of Sheriff’s Office “Most Wanted” Nabbed Within a Week

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that two fugitives featured on the Sheriff’s Office “Most Wanted” posters have been taken into custody in two separate incidents within the last week. Yesterday, May 25, Timothy Streber was taken into custody in Hamilton County and brought to the Butler County Jail on warrants issued out of Butler County Common Pleas Court for Failure to Appear on Felony Non-Support charges. Those warrants were issued in December, 2005, after Streber failed to show for a court appointment. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit tracked his travels through several states, but had been unable to apprehend him. Streber attempted to re-instate a driver’s license yesterday in Hamilton County when the outstanding warrants were discovered there. He was immediately taken into custody and then brought to the Butler County Jail.

His arrest comes on the heel of last week’s capture of Patrick Crane by US Marshall’s Agents in Knoxville, Tennessee. Crane had been wanted in Butler County since a Grand Jury Indictment in 2004 for felony charges of Grand Theft by Deception and two (2) counts of Securing Writings by Deception. Those charges stem from his dealings with an elderly Morgan Township resident in 2004. After completing several home improvement repairs for the victim, he allegedly befriended the victim, gaining her confidence and convincing her to make an investment with him. He also allegedly obtained loans in the victim’s name before disappearing with thousands of dollars of her money.

Crane disappeared before the Butler County indictment and arrest warrant could be served, and the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit has been working the case ever since. Eventually learning of some of his other victims in Ohio as well as in several other states, the Sheriff’s Office began sharing information and working closely with the US Marshall’s Office to bring this fugitive to justice. After having some charges addressed in Hamilton County (Ohio) he will be transferred to Butler County for the charges here.

Sheriff Jones is pleased that these two fugitives have been found and arrested. They represent the third and fourth persons from the Sheriff’s Office “Most Wanted” poster (which debuted February, 2006) that have been captured and arrested. The poster can be viewed on the Sheriff’s Office website at www.butlersheriff.org.
