Recent Scam Involving Donations to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones alerts all area residents of recent scam activity. The Sheriff’s office is currently investigating two complaints (one in West Chester and on in Hamilton) involving soliciting of funds for the purchase of bullet proof vests for the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. Both victims advised that a male caller represents himself as a Butler County Sheriff’s Office Affiliate and asks for help in purchasing bulletproof vests. He then asks for credit card information for the donation. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office does not have any programs currently seeking any type of donation for bulletproof vests. Fortunately both victims involved in the two complaints did not give out their information and are not out any money.
Sheriff Jones warns residents to never give out credit card or personal information to anyone over the telephone. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and get a call back telephone number to confirm someone’s identity.
If any residents have further information concerning this matter, please contact Deputy Doug Hale at 513-759-7347
