Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones is in full support of State Representatives John Adams and Wes Retherford on prohibiting any state agency from entering into an agreement with the Federal Government to provide temporary housing for illegal immigrants.

The bill would also make any local government or private corporation ineligible to receive any state funding, including Local Government Funds, if they enter in to an agreement with the federal government to house illegal immigrants.

Sheriff Jones stated, “Providing illegal aliens with temporary housing hurts our current citizens. No one knows their medical histories, or prior life styles and we certainly do not know about their possible criminal activity. We have homeless people who are here legally and some have children, they should be provided housing before anyone who is not supposed to be here. We should not put our citizens at risk for harm physically or medically.” The Sheriff has sent letters to Governor John Kasich, Congressman John Boehner and Congressman Steve Chabot urging them to join him in support of this legislation.

State Representatives John Adams and Wes Retherford fully support and are looking for co-sponsors for this proposed legislation, which is believed to be the first legislation of this type in the U.S. The Sheriff said “Sometimes you have to do what’s right for our citizens even if it means you have to hit agencies in the pocket.”
