Deputies Conduct Compliance Sweep On Registered Sex Offenders

Sheriff Richard K. Jones takes extreme precaution when it comes to registered sex offenders in his county.  Although periodically throughout the year checks are made on registered sex offenders, annually, the Sheriff has teams of deputies organized to conduct address verifications on these individuals in the Butler County community.

There are over 580 registered sex offenders in Butler County.  On Wednesday, May 25th. there were several teams conducting the verifications throughout the day.  This operation is vital in keeping the community safe by keeping track of the sex offender’s location.  Of the 112 verifications nine are being investigated by our Sex Offender Registrations and Notification (SORN) Division.  Sheriff Jones states, “It is vital to keep track of these people, so they do not re-offend”.

Recovery of Missing Adult

Sheriff Jones reports that on May 15, 2022, Curtis Kellums age 54, who had been reported as missing through the Hamilton Police Department since April 2, 2022, was recovered at 2377 West Elkton Road in a pond.  A volunteer with the Texas EquuSearch found what appeared to be an SUV in the pond using sonar.  TaskForce1 and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office ERS (Emergency Response Services) responded with an underwater drone and divers and was able to retrieve the vehicle were Curtis Kellums was found.

A Butler County Sheriff’s Office Detective and Coroner’s Office responded.  The investigation is still pending.

Two Violent Drug Traffickers Arrested

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that on March 15, 2022, the Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics Taskforce (BURN), along with Hamilton PD, Fairfield City PD, Middletown PD, Hamilton County Taskforce (RENU), Warren County Drug Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted 9 search warrants on residences related to an alleged violent drug trafficking organization operating throughout Butler County. The group was allegedly involved with a large drug seizure in June 2021 and a shooting death in September of 2021. The searches resulted in the recovery of approximately 700 pounds of marijuana with a street value estimated to be around $2,000,000, 10 firearms, multiple vehicles, and over $50,000.
Vince Sanford age 43 of Hamilton was arrested for felony trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs. Vince Sanford has a criminal history that includes Drug Trafficking and Dog Fighting. John Andrews Jr. age 36 of Hamilton was arrested and charged with several federal felony drug and firearms-related offenses. The investigation remains ongoing.

Sheriff Jones states “These agencies working together is key to putting a stop to these violent drug traffickers”.

A Large Amount Of Cash And Fentanyl Seized In Drug Bust

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports on Thursday March 3, 2022 at 1 p.m. The Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics Taskforce (B.U.R.N.) along with Hamilton Police Department and Fairfield City Police Department concluded a four (4) month investigation that resulted in the arrest of Jerell Coburn (age 34) and Brenda Krause (age 48) both of Fairfield. Search warrants were executed in Fairfield, One (1) at 3940 Mack Road apt#3 and one (1) at 978 Nilles Road apt# B, where Jerell and Brenda were currently residing. Another search warrant was executed at a storage unit in Fairfield Township. A loaded firearm, drugs (over 180 grams of fentanyl) and over $55,000 were seized. Jerell was charged with Trafficking in Drugs (F-1) and Possession of Drugs (F-1). Brenda was charged with Possession of Drugs (F-5). There may be further charges pending Grand Jury.

Unit.  The traffic stop resulted in the arrest of twenty eight year old Keon Benjamin of Hamilton.  A search warrant was executed at Intown Suites in Fairfield where Benjamin was currently residing, recovering a loaded firearm, drug paraphernalia and a large sum of cash.  Benjamin was charged with Possession of Drugs (F2) and Possession of Drugs (F5). Upon searching Benjamin at our corrections facility, drugs were located on his person which led to an additional charge of Illegal Conveyance (F3).  There may be further charges pending Grand Jury.

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports on October 21, 2021 at approximately 11:30pm Butler County Sheriff’s Office Communications received 911 calls reference a subject who had been stabbed at 2005 Darrtown Road in Hanover Township.  It was reported a physical alteration took place between two subjects, Justin Nix and victim Ricky Wagers.  Mr. Wagers, age 39 (09/02/1982) from Hamilton, suffered a knife wound injury to the upper chest.  Mr. Wagers was transported by friends to Fort Hamilton Hospital (Kettering Health Hamilton) where he was later pronounced. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division has recovered the apparent weapon involved in this incident.   The person of interest in this investigation is Justin Glenn Nix age 30 (08/14/1991) from Hamilton.  Mr. Nix is 5’9 and 205 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.  Nix is only wanted for questioning in this investigation and is also wanted for a felony drug warrant.  If anyone can assist in locating this subject please contact the Butler County Sheriff’s Office @ 513-785-1300.
