Submit a Comment, Commendation and/or Complaint

 

This web form can be utilized to submit an inquiry, comment, employee or citizen commendation, and/or file a complaint on an employee of the Sheriff’s Office.

Email inboxes are not monitored 24/7 and should not be used if you require an immediate response. If you need law enforcement, fire or medical assistance, call 9-1-1 for emergencies and 513-785-1300 for non-emergencies.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office recognizes outstanding employee and citizen performance through the use of formal commendations. Expressions of gratitude for services or actions by employees and/or citizens are greatly appreciated and encouraged. Letters recognizing citizens and/or employees can be sent to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, 705 Hanover Street, Hamilton, Ohio 45011, or by filling out this form.

Any citizen may make a complaint on an employee of the Sheriff’s Office. Public confidence in this office is vital to the continued accomplishment of our mission of providing the citizens of Butler County with the highest level of professional conduct as possible. The Sheriff’s Office treats citizen complaints against employees very seriously. Complaints are thoroughly and aggressively investigated and if evidence of misconduct is found, we take proper action against that employee.

Citizens wanting to file a complaint can:

  • Contact any member of this agency and you will be directed to a supervisor;
  • Come in person to the Sheriff’s Office, 705 Hanover Street, Hamilton, Ohio and ask for the on-duty patrol supervisor or shift commander;
  • Submit a complaint through our website under the “Contact Us” tab;
  • Submit a complaint through our social media outlets or web tip line.

After you file your complaint, the person(s) investigating it will contact you to ensure that we have all the facts we need to complete the investigation.  Normally the investigation into allegations of employee wrongdoing will be completed within forty-five (45) days when possible. Once the investigation has concluded, you will be notified of the outcome of the investigation.

CAUTION:  Ohio Revised Code Section 2921.15 states, “no person shall knowingly file a complaint against a peace officer that alleges that the peace officer engaged in misconduct in the performance of the officer’s duties if the person knows that the allegation is false.” Violation of this law is a first-degree misdemeanor.
