Joint Investigative Effort Finds I.E.D-type Devices, One Arrested

Hamilton Police Department Chief Scott Scrimizzi, Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones, and the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) announce the arrest of one individual and the seizure of several “I.E.D.-type” devices after the execution of a search warrant last evening in Hanover Township.

On October 31st members of the Hamilton Police Narcotics Unit finished an extensive investigation when they met Jeffrey Fellman of Hamilton at 1532 Main St. The meeting was to exchange two Improvised Explosive Devices (I.E.D.’s). Mr. Fellman met with Hamilton Police undercover officers and handed over two modified grenades. Hamilton Police gained control of the suspect at the scene and contacted several other agencies to assist with a search warrant at Mr. Fellman’s residence.

Several agencies including Sheriff Deputies, ATF, and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to 2463 Hamilton Richmond Rd to conduct the search warrant on Mr. Fellman’s residence. Once inside, the agencies discovered multiple I.E.D.-type devices (modified grenades, PVC pipe bombs, and other bomb-making components).

Mr. Fellman was arrested by The Hamilton Police Department and charged with two counts of Possession of Dangerous Ordinances which is a felony of the fifth degree. “This is exactly the outcome that occurs when agencies pull together and combine their expertise and skills”, said HPD Chief Scrimizzi. “Great cooperative effort,” echoed Sheriff Jones. “This type of illegal activity sure doesn’t belong anywhere in Butler County.” The incident is still under investigation at this time and further charges are pending. All of the agencies involved will be consulting with the Butler County Prosecutors Office on these and future charges. At the suspect’s bond hearing the bond was set at $50,000 dollars and the preliminary hearing is November 8th at 1pm.
