Be Vigilant – See Something… Say Something

As the details of, and the investigation into, yesterday’s tragic event near the finish line of the Boston Marathon unfold, Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reminds everyone of the importance of being ever vigilant and aware of your surroundings. “The word ‘tragic’ does not even come close to describing the senseless act that took place in Boston yesterday afternoon,” said Sheriff Jones. “After 9/11/01, we were all saying that our world would never be the same. These certainly have become different and difficult times.”

Butler County, Ohio, is not a high-profile or heavily populated area when compared with other areas of our country. Even so, that does not mean that something tragic will never happen here. Whether from a foreign or domestic terrorist, or even from just a mentally disturbed individual, the potential for a violent, senseless act is always present. That is why it is so important for everyone to always be on the lookout for things that just don’t seem to look right. If something looks suspicious, call 9-1-1 and make contact with proper authorities and have it checked out. Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that one person was taken to the hospital this morning after a crash in Hanover Township. Preliminary investigation indicates that Mary Tumbleson, age 42, of Darrtown Road, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound in the 1900 block of Darrtown Road this morning shortly before 6:30 am. She apparently lost control after cresting a small hill, went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle spun around, striking another tree and then burst into flames. She was able to crawl out a window of the vehicle. The truck was fully engulfed in flames when Deputies and Fire Rescue personnel from Hanover Township arrived at the scene. Tumbleson was transported by Hanover Squad to Fort Hamilton Hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

Traffic Crash in Milford Twp. Sends Four (4) to Hospitals

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that a crash in Milford Township early today resulted in four (4) individuals being transported to area hospitals. Shortly after midnight this morning, Deputies and emergency rescue crews responded to the 1100 block of Somerville-Jacksonburg Road (State Route 744) for a single-vehicle crash.

The preliminary report indicates that Cody Wallen, age 19, of Jacksonburg Road, was driving a 2000 Chevy pickup truck westbound on State Route 744. The crash remains under investigation by the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (S.T.A.R.T.). Initial indications are that the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.
