Vicious Dog Attack Causes Death in Madison Township

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that a vicious dog attacked a Madison Township woman causing her death. Shortly after 1:00 pm today a witness called 9-1-1 and advised a female was being attacked by a dog in the 4700 block of Eck Road.

Madison Township emergency crews responded along with BCSO deputies and a deputy dog warden. The attack occurred outside the home in the back yard where victim suffered multiple injuries to her face, neck and body and died as a result of the attack. The husband of the victim and a child were home during the attack but were not injured. The dog is a family pet and they are shocked by what happened to 59 year old Cindy Whisman. Family members referred to the dog as a pit bull but the breed has not yet been determined.

The BCSO Deputy Dog Warden took control of the canine and it will be placed at the Animal Friends Humane Society. Butler County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene for to investigate the exact cause of death.

It is not known what prompted the attack at this time. “These type of tragedies are happening way too often, family pet or not.” Sheriff Jones said.
