Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that 62 year old Michael Kelley has been charged with cruelty to a companion animal for slitting the throat of his seven year old Yorkie-Poo.  The deceased dog was discovered during a medical run on November 2nd at Mr. Kelley’s residence by the City of Monroe Police and Fire.

The Butler County Deputy Dog Warden stated Mr. Kelley took the dog outside and slit its throat with a kitchen knife.  That attempt was unsuccessful so he then retrieved a fillet knife to finish the job. “The Butler County Deputy Dog Warden did a great job on this investigation.  Cases like this are disturbing and I don’t understand the mentality of people who mistreat innocent animals.  It makes one think what else they may be capable of.  We will continue to take a firm stance here in Butler County against anyone who commits disgusting acts like this,” said Sheriff Jones.

The Deputy Dog Warden stated this is one of the worst cases of cruelty he has ever seen. Cruelty to a companion animal in this case is a felony of the 5th degree.
