Fatal Crash in Morgan Township, Butler County
Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports on 08/05/2022, at approximately 06:32 AM, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a fatal single vehicle accident on California Rd, north of Alert New London Rd. It appears the vehicle, a 2001 silver Honda, was traveling southbound on California Rd. when it went off the roadway, struck a drainage pipe, and flipped over into a creek. The 21-year-old male driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (START) responded and is handling the investigation. At this time, there is no obvious indication of the cause of the crash. Identification of the driver is being withheld pending notification of the family.

Additional Emergency Response Services (ERS) members deployed to Eastern Kentucky
Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports eight additional members of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Services (ERS) are being deployed to Hazard, Kentucky. This is a result of the ongoing operations in the area due to the devastating flooding. ERS personnel will assist the Northern Kentucky All-Hazards Incident Management Team (NKY AHIMT) and will be assigned to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). These members will be relieving crews that have been in place over the last several days. This operational cycle is expected to last ten days. Sheriff Jones has been in contact with local emergency management leaders and they appreciate all the assistance that we and other agencies have provided.

ERS Deployed to Kentucky Floods
Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports, a member of the Butler County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Services (ERS) has deployed to Eastern Kentucky with the Northern Kentucky All-Hazards Incident Management Team (NKY AHIMT) to assist with the devastating flooding. The deployment came after the Division of Emergency Management / State EOC-HQ requested the team’s assistance. Team members consist of personnel from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and Campbell, Kenton, Boone and Pendleton Counties. Currently 32 members are deployed. Sheriff Jones states, “Eastern Kentucky has been hit hard. We will help our neighbors, whatever it takes.”

Fatal Crash in Milford Township, Butler County CareFlight helicopter also crashes while landing
Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports on July 26, 2022, at approximately 0408 hours, Butler County Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS personnel responded to a fatal crash at the intersection of US 127 and Eaton Rd. Unit #1, a blue 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling eastbound on Eaton Rd. and proceeded into the intersection into the path of Unit #2, a gray 2013 GMC Sierra, who was traveling northbound on US 127. A rear passenger in Unit #1, a 69-year-old female from Richmond, Indiana, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A front passenger in Unit #1,a 43-year-old female, was mechanically extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The other two occupants of Unit #1 suffered minor injuries and were also transported to the hospital. The driver of Unit #2 was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not injured. CareFlight responded to transport the seriously injured female passenger. At approximately 0458 hours, the helicopter crashed while attempting to land at the scene. All three crew members were transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (START) is processing both crashes and will be working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in regards to the helicopter crash. The scene is still active and the roadway will be closed for the next several hours. Identification of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the family

Hamilton Man Arrested on Fentanyl Charges
Sheriff Richard K. Jones announces the arrest of Henry Allen Thompson III, 46 on July 21, 2022. His arrest was part of a drug investigation conducted by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Undercover Regional Narcotics Taskforce. BURN along with Hamilton Police Department executed a search warrant at Thompson’s 1300 Hensley Avenue address in the City of Hamilton at approximately 4:00 PM on Thursday afternoon.
Inside the residence agents located 70 grams of Fentanyl, 1 kilogram of Cocaine, approximately ½ ounce of Crack Cocaine and 1 pound of Marihuana. Also located and seized was a little more than $40,000.00 in cash, multiple firearms, and a ballistic vest.
In a podcast topic recently discussed by Sheriff Jones “Fentanyl – The Silent Pandemic”. The Sheriff describes how the DEA has determined that just two milligrams of Fentanyl can be lethal.
Mr. Thompson is charged through Hamilton Municipal Court with Possession of Drugs a Felony of the 1st Degree and Weapons under Disability a Felony of the 3rd Degree. Agents will be seeking additional charges as the investigation continues to unravel.

Roger Reynolds Indicted On Additional Charge
Sheriff Richard K. Jones will be on Facebook Live today at 10:30 to discuss the Butler County Grand Jury indictment of Roger Reynolds on a sixth charge, Unlawful Interest in a Public Contract, fourth degree felony. This charge comes from an ongoing corruption investigation started in August 2021.
