Agents Seize $30,000 Worth Of Methamphetamine

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that yesterday afternoon, BURN (Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics) Taskforce along with the Fairfield Township Police Department, concluded a month long investigation that culminated in two arrests and the seizure of almost a pound of Crystal Methamphetamine.

Andrew Beach, 32 year old male, and Heather Evans, 29 year old female, were taken into custody during a traffic stop at the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and High Street in the City of Hamilton. Both traveled to Butler County from the Dayton area for the purpose of selling a large amount of Crystal Methamphetamine. The pair was also found to be in possession of approximately $7,000 U.S. currency.  “This is not a drug that we’ve seen produced here in the U.S. This is higher grade of methamphetamine that normally comes from Mexico. If you’ve seen the “Breaking Bad” series, this stuff is close to that”, said Lieutenant Todd Langmeyer. “The street value of what we confiscated is approximately $30,000.”

Scammers Posing As Sheriff Deputies

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that scammers are calling people by phone posing as Sheriff Deputies.  They are calling victims and giving names and badge numbers and advising the victims that they missed a court appearance.  The scammers are then advising the victims to respond to a Kroger and place the money on a “Re Charge” Card. The victim is then asked to read off the serial number to the card via phone.  The victim is then instructed to respond to the Sheriff’s Office to turn the card in to authorities.

Scamming is nothing new, and there is always someone trying to prey on people through fear of consequence unless the victim complies.  “We never ask people for money to get out of trouble and we certainly never ask information by phone.  No one should ever provide information by phone unless they are absolutely certain who they are talking to on the other end of the line.  These criminals will say anything to scare people into doing what they want,” said Todd Langmeyer, Lieutenant of Investigations.

The Sheriff is encouraging everyone to pay attention to these types of calls and not do what the criminals are asking.  “This is a crime that will continue as long as one person becomes a victim to their demands. These criminals have a very well thought-out plan, and they are obviously not afraid to pretend like law enforcement. We have had people pose as relatives, police, friends, etc.; to try to get someone to wire money or use pre-paid cards.  Most of the time, the scammers are in another state or country,” said the Sheriff.

The Sheriff is encouraging the public to not give information or send money when contacted to do so by phone.  There is no need to report the crime to dispatch unless you have suffered a loss.  The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an active investigation on the situation at this time.

Citizen Tip Leads To Meth Lab In City Of Hamilton

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that last night around 10 PM, Fairfield Township Police responded to Walmart for a suspicious subject that purchased meth making components. The B.U.R.N (Butler County Regional Narcotics) Taskforce responded to assist. Jason Hopkins, 37 year old male, told the deputies that he was purchasing items to cook meth in his home. Subsequently, a search of the residence at 646 S. McKinley in the City of Hamilton, led to a large meth lab in the basement.

“I am grateful for people calling in these tips. I hope the message is getting out there, to the dealers that people are paying attention when purchases of ingredients to make illegal drugs are made and they are calling the police,” said the Sheriff.

Jason Hopkins was charged with illegal manufacturing, felony of the 1st degree, illegal possession of chemicals, felony of the 2nd degree, and endangering children, felony of the 3rd degree. There was a pregnant 17 year old female and 15 year old boy living at the residence which prompted the Endangering charge.

“Children Services will be involved in the investigation because there is a juvenile living in the home. The City of Hamilton Fire Department was on scene to provide fire suppression and Hanover Township Fire Department was on scene with breathing apparatuses. We are thankful for their assistance and glad no one sustained injuries during the dismantling of the illegal lab,” stated Lieutenant Langmeyer.
