Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that Butler County Children Services was in the process of doing a child removal. During the investigation, they observed what was believed to be a marijuana grow operation. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office B.U.R.N. (Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics) Unit responded. They discovered it was a butane hash oil operation being processed for distribution. Child Tested Positive For Meth, Mother Indicted

You may recall, Sheriff Richard K. Jones reported on March 18th that the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies, Butler County Probation and B.U.R.N. (Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics Taskforce) conducted a search at 2840 Scott Road in Milford Township in which they discovered chemicals used to manufacture meth inside the residence. The agents located a lot of extremely dangerous chemicals; so dangerous, that Milford Township emergency crews were utilized for safety in case of an explosion. There were two children and another adult in the residence at the time of the search.

Initially, Michael Murray was criminally charged for his role in the meth lab. B.U.R.N. agents along with the help of Children’s Services presented to a Butler County Grand Jury an additional case against Caroline Lissal who was also at the residence during the search. On June 10th, Ms. Lissal was indicted on endangering children, a felony of the 3rd degree, and permitting drug abuse, felony of the 5th degree, as a result of her 2 year old son having tested positive for methamphetamine.

“I hope everyone hears this loud and clear,” said the Sheriff. “Those of you committing these criminal acts need to think about the dangers you are surrounding your children with. The B.U.R.N. taskforce worked diligently on this case and this kind of stuff bothers everyone. I genuinely hope this child will be ok and lead a better life than the way it has started for him.”

The Sheriff encourages everyone to continue to report drug-related activity to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Reily Township Arrested for Beating His Dog

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that on June 1st, at approximately 1:00 PM, his Deputy Dog Wardens responded to 6029 Stillwell Road in Reily Township to investigate animal cruelty.

Robert Lewis, a 23 year old male, was reportedly seen punching and kicking a dog in his yard. Mr. Lewis fled the residence when deputies arrived.  Yesterday at approximately 2:20 AM, he was arrested and charged with obstructing official business, resisting arrest, and four counts of cruelty to animals. He also had several outstanding warrants from the City of Hamilton.

Lewis had five dogs, and all were removed by BCSO Deputy Dog Wardens.  They are now being cared for and housed at the Animal Friends Humane Society on Princeton Road in the City of Hamilton.  “These animals were severely abused. They were extremely submissive and obviously scared.  We will keep them at the shelter for medical treatment and observation,” Dog Warden Supervisor Kurt Merbs said.

“It is truly repulsive that a human being can beat a defenseless animal,” Sheriff Jones said. “Mr. Lewis told our deputies that he was ‘disciplining’ his dogs.  I think anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that torturing and beating animals is not a form of discipline.  Unfortunately, animal cruelty is a misdemeanor, but we will work closely with the prosecutor to see that he is punished to the fullest extent of the law.”

Three of the dogs were puppies and were voluntarily signed over, by Lewis, to the Animal Friends Humane Society. The case is still under investigation and placement of the other two dogs will be determined at a later time. Anyone interested in adopting these or other animals should visit or contact the Animal Friends Humane Society.

Citizen Tip Leads To Meth Lab In City Of Hamilton

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that last night around 10 PM, Fairfield Township Police responded to Walmart for a suspicious subject that purchased meth making components. The B.U.R.N (Butler County Regional Narcotics) Taskforce responded to assist. Jason Hopkins, 37 year old male, told the deputies that he was purchasing items to cook meth in his home. Subsequently, a search of the residence at 646 S. McKinley in the City of Hamilton, led to a large meth lab in the basement.

“I am grateful for people calling in these tips. I hope the message is getting out there, to the dealers that people are paying attention when purchases of ingredients to make illegal drugs are made and they are calling the police,” said the Sheriff.

Jason Hopkins was charged with illegal manufacturing, felony of the 1st degree, illegal possession of chemicals, felony of the 2nd degree, and endangering children, felony of the 3rd degree. There was a pregnant 17 year old female and 15 year old boy living at the residence which prompted the Endangering charge.

“Children Services will be involved in the investigation because there is a juvenile living in the home. The City of Hamilton Fire Department was on scene to provide fire suppression and Hanover Township Fire Department was on scene with breathing apparatuses. We are thankful for their assistance and glad no one sustained injuries during the dismantling of the illegal lab,” stated Lieutenant Langmeyer.

BCSO Launches Improved Traffic Cameras
Invaluable Tool for Emergency Services and Public

HAMILTON, OH –Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones announced today that his office has installed an upgraded camera system on the top of the Government Services Center in downtown Hamilton. The original, analog traffic cameras on the Government Services Center were no longer operating reliably. The new IP-based system provides a live bird’s-eye view of nearly a mile in all directions, and provides new benefits to local responders.

The system can be used by the Sheriff’s Office to monitor weather conditions and any ongoing situation which may impact public safety. With a view of some older, fire-prone neighborhoods, Sheriff Jones is hoping the Hamilton Fire Department will be able to benefit from the system as well. The cameras can be accessed from Hamilton’s Fire Headquarters to assess smoke plumes and monitor an incident for appropriate response. The video feeds have also been made available for use directly from the city’s fire trucks.

Dispatchers will have the ability to monitor weather, traffic, police incidents and fire incidents occurring within camera range.

“This will be an invaluable tool for emergency services,” Sheriff Jones said, “in addition to giving the public a way to keep an eye on traffic and road conditions – especially with the construction on east High Street.”

When the cameras aren’t being used to monitor a particular incident, they’ll be fixed on portions of State Route 129. From the Government Services Center, one camera will view High Street to the west and one camera will view High Street to the east. An existing third camera, located on a county radio tower, views State Route 129 east of Hampshire Drive.

The traffic camera feeds are available to the public on the BCSO website at www.butlersheriff.org.
