The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for a full-time Victim Advocate. This position is part of the Victim Assistance Program.

JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for providing advocacy services, information and support to victims of crime and survivors of victims. Liaison between victims and assistant prosecutors, judges, magistrates, court personnel, and law enforcement officers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Serves all victims of crime, specifically assisting victims of domestic violence crimes and victims involved in pending criminal cases in the Butler County Area I, Area II and Area III Courts.

Provides ongoing courtroom advocacy throughout the judicial process, providing courtroom advocacy to victims by being present in the courtrooms five (5) days a week, working directly with our county’s assistant prosecutors, judges, magistrates, court personnel, and law enforcement officers.  Courtroom advocacy services include but are not limited to:  providing victim notification for all court hearings, representing victims’ expectations at bond hearings, crisis intervention, trauma informed care, referral support, restitution management, law enforcement and prosecutorial interview accompaniment, trial preparation, victim impact statement preparation assistance, 24-hour on-call response, VOCC application assistance, and VINE registration assistance.

Available to assist victims who are filing petitions for civil domestic violence protection orders, civil stalking protection orders, and civil sexual assault protection orders.

Provides law enforcement trainings, community education and awareness and participate in domestic violence collaborations boards within Butler County.

Victim Assistance Program

The Victim Assistance Program is a court advocacy program staffed by trained Victim Advocates who provide services and referrals to victims of misdemeanor crimes in the Butler County Area Courts. Advocates act as the liaison of communication between the victim and the courts, providing support both during and after their cases, throughout the criminal and civil court processes. Advocates will provide services and support to empower, heal and assure that every victim, every time, has a voice in the judicial process.
