Jones is warning residents to be cautious about a telephone scam that has targeted at least two county residents (one in Liberty Township, one in the City of Fairfield) within the last couple of weeks. In one instance, the scammer posed as an IRS Agent attempting to collect back taxes. In the other, the scammer claimed to be a Butler County Sheriff’s Deputy calling about complaints filed with the Department of Justice needing to satisfy some kind of debt. In both instances, residents were threatened with arrest and/or jail time if the debt was not immediately settled.

Butler County Family Suffers Double Tragedy in Same Night

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that, on April 3rd 2014 at approximately 8:25 pm, a ten-year old boy was riding his bike on Sample Road in Reily Township when he was struck by a vehicle.

The boy was transported to Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati with reportedly severe head trauma. The crash is still under investigation by the Butler County Sheriff’s Traffic Unit.
