Crash in St. Clair Township Last Night Sends Three Teens to Hospitals

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports a two-vehicle crash in northern St. Clair Township last night, December 26, shortly before 10 pm resulted in three teens being transported to hospitals. The preliminary report indicates that Ashley Spaulding, age 17, of 3rd Street, Trenton, was driving a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire south-bound on Jacksonburg Road just south of Taylor School road. As she attempted to pass a vehicle, she apparently lost control, and her vehicle began swerving, eventually sliding sideways across both lanes of traffic. The Sunfire then collided with a north-bound 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Dalton Williams, age 19, from Meadow Lane, Trenton.

Spaulding and her passenger, Sierra Lindamood, age 17, of Morganthaler Road, St. Clair Township, were both transported by Air care to University Hospital, Cincinnati, with what appeared to be serious injuries. Williams was transported by Wayne Township Squad to The Atrium Hospital, in Middletown. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (START).

Six Arrested During Protest Held at Sheriff’s Office

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports six persons were arrested early this afternoon during a protest held near the public entrance to the Sheriff’s Office Operational and Correctional Complex on Hanover Street. Members of “United We Dream,” who proclaim to be an immigrant, youth-led network, held a planned demonstration around noon today at the Sheriff’s Office to “shut down the Butler County Detention facility” in protest of current immigration policies.

During the protest by approximately 50 young adults, six of them chained themselves to the public access doors. They were warned to stop their actions, or face arrest. After ignoring that warning, those six individuals were taken into custody, arrested for Disorderly Conduct (a 4th-degree misdemeanor), and escorted into the Butler County Jail for processing. Those arrested include: Oliver Merino-Morales, male, age 24, of Wingate, NC; Luis Aguilar-Garcia, male, age 18, of Boonville, NC; Parth Thaker, male, age 22, of Charlotte, NC; Yash Mori, male, age 18, of Charlotte, NC; Lizette Diaz, female, age 22, of Yadkinville, NC; and Maura Pereira, female, age 18, of Cooleemee, NC.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that the pedestrian struck by a vehicle in Seven Mile yesterday morning has died from injuries sustained in the accident. Donald Mays, age 84, of Seven Mile, was pronounced deceased late last night at University Hospital, Cincinnati, where he was flown by Air Care yesterday from the scene of the crash.

Sheriff Jones “Pardons” Turkey

Wild turkey apprehended in Liberty Township

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that he has officially “pardoned” a wild turkey that was captured last week in Liberty Township. The Sheriff’s Office had received several phone complaints over the last couple of weeks involving a wild turkey in the roadway impeding traffic on a few Liberty Township roadways. By the time deputies would arrive in response to the calls, the turkey had fled from the area.

Last Thursday, November 21, around 11:45 am, deputies were once again called for a wild turkey in the roadway, this time along Princeton Road near the Yankee Road intersection, and this time the “suspect” was present. After coming “nose-to-nose” with a Sheriff’s cruiser, the turkey was able to be captured with the assistance from a Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dog Warden. The bird was taken into custody and briefly detained. No one (or thing) was injured in the process. The wild turkey has been transported to a remote farm location in another township, and was released back into the wild. For added protection for the turkey, that exact location is not being revealed. The turkey has been secretly placed in an “Animal Protection Program.”

Drug Investigation Leads Agents to Arrest and Large Marijuana Seizure

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that agents from the Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics (BURN) Task Force, along with United States Postal Inspections, executed a search warrant on November 21, 2013 around 5:30 pm, at 7820 Plantation Drive in West Chester, Ohio. Agents were able to track packages containing drugs which were being sent to a resident of Plantation Drive from a southern California point of origin.

Agents seized a little over four pounds of marijuana which had been sent through the mail. Once agents entered the residence, they also discovered a significant marijuana grow operating in the basement. They seized 190 marijuana plants, miscellaneous items of drug paraphernalia and hypodermic needles. In addition to the drugs, agents seized a 2002 Lexus.

“Good Samaritan” Assaulted Trying to Help Motorist

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that a man’s attempt to help a “stranded motorist” Friday night led to him being assaulted and seeking medical treatment. Damon Wyatt, age 46, of Trenton, reported to Sheriff’s Deputies that he was travelling along Augspurger Road near Gephart Road in St. Clair Township around 11:00 – 11:30 Friday night. He spotted a dark-colored minivan on the side of the road, and a male and female standing next to it. The suspects stated they needed a “jump,” and indicated they had cables. Wyatt positioned his vehicle facing the front of the van, and opened the hood of his vehicle. At that time, he said a third suspect came up behind him and tried to choke him. While being choked, the first male suspect began to hit him in the face. When he woke up a short time later, all the suspects were gone. He could tell that someone had gone through his vehicle, but he didn’t notice anything missing (he indicated his wallet had been hidden inside the vehicle, and he found it undisturbed). Wyatt drove himself to Fort Hamilton Hospital for treatment, from where he called the Sheriff’s Office to report the incident. Wyatt described the first male as white, wearing a dark jacket and camouflage hat, and having short facial hair. The female was also white, and had shoulder-length, dark curly hair. Both are believed to be in their 20’s. The third suspect was only described as a white male. Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating. Anyone with information on the suspects, the minivan, or anything about this incident, are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at (513) 785-1300.
