Traffic Stop Results in Detention of Four Undocumented Foreign Nationals

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that on June 24, 2025, at 2:30pm, deputies from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol conducted a traffic stop in Lemon Township for multiple traffic violations.

During the course of the stop, deputies identified all four occupants of the vehicle as individuals illegally present in the United States. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) was contacted to verify their immigration status and assist in further proceedings.

The following individuals were taken into custody:

• Lester Hernandez Solis, Age 23 — Costa Rica

• Jose Solis Vargas, Age 26 — Mexico

• Gino Herrera Gonzalez, Age 42 — Peru

• Pascual Arteaga Cruz, Age 41 — Mexico

All four subjects were transported to the Butler County Jail and are currently being held on temporary I.C.E. detainers pending further investigation and federal removal proceedings.

Sheriff Jones stated,

“If you are in this country illegally and while you're here you break the law, I’d say that’s a 10 on the Richter Scale of Stupidity.”
