ROAD PATROL
Road Patrol
The Butler County Patrol Unit is the most visible division at the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies are usually the first to respond to call for assistance and generates most of the reports submitted to other divisions for follow up. The Patrol deputies are responsible for traffic law enforcement throughout Butler County along with answering calls for domestic violence, alarm drops, burglaries, and thefts just to name a few.
Deputies have a non-stop commitment, working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, offering the county the highest level of police services and protection.
Road Patrol and Contracts
Deputies assigned to the Road Patrol unit, within the Headquarters Division, patrol unincorporated areas not otherwise covered by contract. Liberty Township contracts with the Sheriff’s Office for patrol services, and those deputies are part of the Liberty Township Patrol Division.
Other contracts for patrol services, which are part of the Road Patrol unit, include Liberty Township, Ohio and Hanover Township, Ohio.
Liberty Township Patrol Division
Liberty Township is located in the east-central part of the county, north of West Chester Township and south of the City of Monroe. The Sheriff’s Office provides contracted law enforcement services to Liberty Township’s twenty-eight square miles and over 37,000 residents.
Liberty Township is one of the fastest growing townships in Butler County. The opening of the Liberty Way interchange, which occurred on October 14, 2009, paved the way for opening of six hundred acres of additional commercial development. Liberty Township’s close proximity to I-75 and S.R. 129, the new Children’s Hospital and excellent schools make it very attractive for future development. Liberty Township needs a professional and capable police force, which the Butler County Sheriff’s Office is able to provide.
Since 1992, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office has provided contract police services for Liberty Township (population 43,999). This successful collaboration between the Township and Sheriff’s Office provides township residents with comprehensive and affordable law enforcement services. The Sheriff’s Office assigns 27 full time positions to the township and supplements resources as needed to provide 24/7 protection to Liberty Township residents. Provisions of the contract address supervision, administration, school resource officer, road patrol, and specialized enforcement/investigative units. Liberty Township Deputies under this contract are able to enforce township ordinances in addition to state and federal law.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office Liberty substation is located 5021 Winners Circle Drive.
In 2021 and 2022, the Liberty Township Deputies responded to 63,007 calls for service.

Hanover Township
Hanover Township contracts with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement patrol services. These deputies are part of the Road Patrol unit.
Hanover is one of thirteen townships in Butler County. The Sheriff’s Office maintains a substation at the township’s administration building.
The township has two deputies under contract to serve the residents of Hanover Township exclusively. This contracted service is supplemented by the Sheriff’s Office regular patrol units serving the western townships of Butler County. These deputies patrol subdivisions, county roads, cemeteries, parks and business districts. They offer information on laws, vehicles, home security, and crime prevention programs and provide monthly reports to the Township Administration during regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meetings.
