Honor Guard

 

The Butler County Honor Guard and Caisson Unit is made up of personnel who are assigned to various positions throughout the agency such as corrections, court security and patrol. Employee’s tryout for the unit and are put through military drill and ceremony movements. Personnel who perform the best during tryouts are then selected for this unit.

 In 2017, the unit consisted of nineteen (19) members who have a talent for precision and mental focus in any environment. When not reporting for their regular assigned duties within the Sheriff’s Office, the unit is training in an array of complex drills. Members attend dinners, parades, swearing-in events, and funerals. They may present the Colors for various ceremonies or be faced with performing casket guard for a fallen law enforcement officer. The Honor Guard’s Officer in Charge (OIC) was C.O. George Coleman, who ran this division for ten (10) years. Coleman resigned his position at the Sheriff’s Office the end of 2017 . The Caisson’s OIC is Deputy Ryan Jones.

In 2017, the Honor Guard presented the colors for the Citizen Naturalization Ceremony at Miami University’s Hamilton Campus, participated in the 4th of July parade, Memorial Day parade, Veteran’s Day Ceremonies, and several other events throughout the year.
