DHS-ICEThe Butler County Sheriff’s Office works closely with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The 287(g) program, one of ICE’s top partnership initiatives, allows a state and local law enforcement entity to enter into a partnership with ICE, under a joint Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), in order to receive delegated authority for immigration enforcement within their jurisdictions.

In 2018

287(g) had 342 encounters with illegal immigrants, placed 86 into federal custody, and placed 123 federal detainers ( no info on ICE itself). Local ICE agents have offices within the facility, strengthening the communication and efficiency of the process.
